What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is a form of rehabilitation. Its aim is the resumption of one's occupations, such as personal care, pastimes, as well as so-called productive activities (work, shopping, house cleaning). Such activities give meaning to life and promote personal development.

Occupational therapy helps to promote personal autonomy, providing people with a satisfying quality of life, helping them to remain in their environment (at home, at work) and promoting their integration into the community.

Who can benefit from occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is for people of all ages, groups, communities and organizations as well as businesses.

How can occupational therapy help you?

Occupational therapy assesses the impact of physical and mental health problems on the body's many functions. It identifies the positive or negative effect of the physical and human environment on the completion of those activities. Finally, it determines the person's level of autonomy in the performance of his or her activities.

Occupational therapy provides an analysis of the interaction between those elements in order to guide its means of action as much on the person as on his or her environment. The objective is to optimize the person's participation in the activities.
