Massage
Therapy:
A Massage Therapist is a health professional that uses massage therapy
to improve their patient's quality of life. Massage is the oldest and
simplest form of healing and perhaps the mother of all hands-on therapy.
Touch is fundamental for our physical and mental well-being and yet the
value of this vital form of therapy is often underestimated.
Massage can be defined as a series of non invasive manual techniques
(strokes, gliding, rubbing, kneading and pressures) that effect one or
more structures (skin, fat tissue, fasciae, joint, muscles, blood and
lymphatic vessels, etc.) in order to release pain, reduce swelling,
enhance mobility of joints and gliding surface, alleviate emotional and
mental tension. Massage has also been used successfully as a meditation
to alleviate pain and anguish of patients with cancer and is also the
core of many methods used for the development of human potential.
When used skillfully it is a powerful tool for healing and of vital
importance for a preventive health care program. This Therapy relaxes
both body and mind, restoring our energy before we burn out and become
prone to stress and diseases. Our professional staff include :
Michele
Popowick, Ashley Fletcher-Kyle and Carole Lapointe.

Functional
Capacity Evaluation (FCE):
The functional capacity evaluation is performed by a health professional
that assesses the individual's flexibility, strength, balance,
coordination, cardiovascular condition, and body mechanics. An effective
FCE determines whether there is a match between the individual's
functional capabilities, and the physical demands of work. The
evaluation begins with a body musculoskeletal assessment to determine
gross muscle strength and flexibility. FCE's involve the worker in
various activities that simulate physical demands at work.
Through the evaluation, the professional will define the worker's
ability to perform activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing,
pulling, bending, squatting, standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, etc.
Whenever a job target is identified, the professional matches the
worker's abilities to specific job tasks.
We utilize a system of the latest technology to evaluate our patients.
This technology permits us to perform an accurate and efficient
evaluation.

Orthotherapy:
A relatively new profession, focusing on pain relief,
relaxation and regaining flexibility. It seeks to align and straighten the
body using gentle massage techniques and stretching exercises.
Osteopathy : Osteopathy
(including Cranial Osteopathy) takes advantage of the body's natural tendency
to strive toward a state of health and homeostasis. A much in demand specialty,
the Osteopath is trained to palpate (feel) the body's "living anatomy"
(i.e. flow of fluids, motion and texture of tissues, and structural makeup).
They
address health problems with a non-invasive system of medicine called,
"Osteopathic Manual Medicine" in order to restore normal function
in areas impaired by trauma, chronic illness, acute health problems, etc.
The Osteopath's job is to "set" the body up to heal itself.
To restore this normal function, the Osteopath gently applies a precise
amount of force to promote movement of the bodily fluids, eliminate dysfunction
in the motion of the tissues, and release compressed bones and joints.
